Happy Earth Day

Tomorrow is Earth Day. In honor of Earth Day, I wanted to share with all of you a point that Zack brought up tonight. I have been recently planting more for veggies for the garden, and left the soil out. Jeff was asking me if I was done with the potting soil, so he could bring it back downstairs. Zack turned and looked at both of us and said "Since tomorrow is Earth Day why don't we start a compost, we could put our eggshells, and coffee junk (meaning grounds) in it, and the worms will eat all the garbage, then they will make fertilizer out of it, and we could use that instead of that poison you are using to plant our food with"

Now I must tell you that this idea came completely out of his head, and I did plant it into his brain. I was very proud of him for making this statement, because most 11 year old children are probably asking if they can still play their game boys or not.

Tomorrow is day that if everyone does something small to celebrate Earth Day, it can help make a difference. We are going to plant a tree at our house. What are you going to do? Here is a link that gives you 10 ideas of what you can do to help. http://www.ecomall.com/greenshopping/earthday2006.htm Another idea is to find out what kind of recycling programs your children's school has, if they even have one. Some only recycle plastic bottles which is great, but what about all that paper. Schools use a lot of paper every day. Are they recycling that paper? If not then maybe you could volunteer to help start a paper recycling program.

Please at least do one small thing to make our Earth a better, healthier Earth.
